well, it is my attempt at a post!! yep, it has been way to long since i have been on here! i feel as if my computer time has been taken over by facebook! how crazy is that??
so what i have been up to? well, still doing my needlepoint, although i have taken a bit of break from it. i have one major item that i want to get completed by September. i am talking about the Christmas Train Bolster Pillow that i have been working on for a few months now. i have gotten to the part where i am just filling in the background and the tiny little sections, which always seem to bore me after awhile. i will, however, have it done so it can be finished and put to use on time for Christmas!
i also picked up the needles again. i am in the middle of a baby boom again and those little soon to be around babies deserve to have really cute hand knit sweaters, skirts and/or longies!! i have already finished one sweater and a matching skirt for baby Grace that was born a few weeks ago. now i am trying to finish up another sweater and skirt set for her (the skirt is already done) by the May 17th.
also due on that day will be another sweater for another friend who is due the first week of June. i have to have a sweater done for her bundle (i am going with celery green and off white b/c she doesn't know the sex) and will give her an IOU for the bottoms, that will be made after the baby is born. ***i think that it will be a boy, but better safe then sorry***
the major issue i am facing with these knitting projects is that i have a very limited amount of time to complete them! YIKES!!! i just got back from a long weekend in Phoenix to celebrate my mother in laws b-day (i had a great spa day with my mil and 3 of my 4 sil's) and we also celebrated my niece's First Communion and Confirmation. (it seemed weird to me, but in the Phoenix area they do both at the same time). i was able to get some knitting in on the plane both ways, but that was about it. then to top it all off, i am heading to Vegas next Wednesday with Jeanne for our annual Mother's Day get-away and i won't be back in Chicago until the following Monday. i know i can knit on the plane, but realistically, i know that i will not do ANY while we are there!
needless to say, i need to get crackin' on these baby gifts! oh, and the kicker...once i complete these baby gifts i will have to start up again for my cousin and friend who are both due in late August/September!
let the knitting begin!!!

the cutest little hat ever...
found the cutest little head to warm!! i made this hat about a year ago, i think??? i have held onto it as i thought one day the perfect little head would come along and not pull it off once it was on her head! well, what do you know?? it actually happened on Sunday!!
we had some friends over for the Super Bowl and Corinne and Danny came with their newest addition, Olivia. i had showed Corinne the hat and told her that she could have it if she wanted it. Corinne had warned me that Olivia was not a fan of hats, but that she would put it on her and see what happens! well, it turned out that Olivia really liked the hat and left it on for about 2 hours! needless to say, the hat went home with them that night!
i for the life of me can't remember the pattern. i know that i got it off of ravelry, so i will have to check on there and see what it was. i am almost 100% positive that it was marked in my favorites. plus, after seeing it on her, it gave me an itch to make another one. however, this time i think that i will wait until there is a little girl to give it to. i would give it to John's cousin who is having a little girl any day now, but i already started her sweater. hmmm...maybe she will get a hat too???
and finally, really quick...look who is 6 now!
Kieran turned six last Thursday!! woo-whoo! one of his gifts was an electric drum set. as you can see from the picture he really enjoys it, so much, that i am now questioning the purchase??? oh well, Bayer seems to help!

just when i thought i was not going to knit...
my husband's cousin went and had her baby! of course this wasn't a surprise to any of us, we all knew that it was going to happen! the only surprise was that i actually got the itch to knit her something for little Sam.
now by no means am i doing something really "different" or "complicated", i just decided on the good old stand-by raglan sweater by Debbie Bliss. i have 3/4 of the sweater completed, i just need to finish the last sleeve and then seam it all together!
the funny thing is that i will be starting on a girl version of the same sweater for another one of my husbands cousin's once this one is completed! what is it with our families??? everyone has their babies right at the same time around here! even i did! when Kieran was born he was #2 of 3 between myself and my sisters in law. we still refer to the three of them as the triplets as they were all born within 8 weeks of each other!
as for other news, i have just put up a bunch of yarn on ebay. yep, i am still destashing my stash! if any of you are interested, feel free to check them out. i am under shelleyfinds05, or you could just click here. the added bonus is that i have a bunch of yarn that has been discontinued up as well as some discontinued colors. all of that info came from yarndex, which is pretty reliable.
now i am off to getting work done on that sleeve and then onto seaming!

happy belated new years!
things around here have slowly gotten back to normal. as goes with tradition, we headed up to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin for the new year and had a blast. this year we brought our niece, Maeve, with us so she could hang out with Kieran and also have some fun. Buffy, Maeve and myself all hit the spa for some pampering and were very happy with our end results. my only regret was that i went with pedicure, i know...a pedicure in the dead of winter? my main reason was because Maeve wanted to get one as well and i didn't want to leave her hanging by herself, she is 11. the one downfall to this was that we had to walk back to the hotel in our flip flops, through the snow....at least the sidewalks were well taken care of so we didn't ruin the painted toes!
we also spent a lot of time at the pool, as Maeve and Kieran couldn't get enough of it! we also brought the wii with us and that kept everyone busy during the later hours of the nights. i do have a ton of pictures from this weekend, but guess what....that's right, my batteries are dead! i need to get more soon because Kieran's b-day is coming up, the big 6, and i know that i will need the camera for all the fun that entails!
as for knitting....it is, sadly to report, a non issue. i haven't done any knitting for quite some time now. i have been working on some needlepoint though! i am currently working on a large bolster pillow. it is really cute and i love it. i am hoping to have it completed by the summer so it can get finished. it is a Christmas Train by Melissa Shirley. i will put some pictures up once the batteries have been purchased!
i also have a few more needlepoint projects that i want to complete this year. i had started a belt, a couple of ornaments and a St. Patrick's Day plaque last year and now i really want to get them finished up. i figure that since most of these will not need to be finished (both stitched and by the finisher) until the end of the year i should be good. the only one that i would need sooner would be the St.Patrick's Day one, but i don't think that i can get it done within the next 3 weeks. that would be the deadline to get it to the finsiher to have it back here in time. however, this won't stop me from working on it!
as for now we are under a blizzard warning until tomorrow afternoon! yea!! the only negative about this is that we aren't expected to get that much snow, only about 4 inches. the main reason for the warning is the strong winds that are expected to come with it. then once we head into the weekend it will be around 0 to 10 below! normally that would mean tons of time to work on the needlepoint, but that may not be the case this weekend. my sister and her husband are heading to D.C. on Sunday for the Inauguration and her 3 kids will be dropped off here for the duration.
i told Maura that she has to get me tons of stuff from all of the events that they will be attending. they are for sure going to be on the parade route and then hitting a cocktail party that my brother in laws company is hosting. they are also going to be at the Illinois Ball, so i am sure they can get me some type of souvenir!
so i will be keeping my finger crossed with hopes of getting something from all of the events!
not much else to report on this end, just awaiting the snow and hoping to get some needlepoint done tongiht!

i'am baaaack......
sorry for my little vacation from blog-dom! i have to be honest here, i got onto facebook and neglected the blog! oops! now where to start with the ongoings around here....
first off, the ebay yarn de-stashing event of '08 was a huge success! i was able to pass on my yarn to other knitters who will not neglect it, if you will, like i have over the past 5+ years. yes, the stash goes back that far, as to what was sold! oops! i am still in the de-stashing mood, so i think that after things get back to normal around here within the next 2 weeks or so, i will be putting more yarn up on ebay. i have become obsessed with getting rid of "clutter" as i have a goal of being able to use our spare bedroom for something functional other then a catch-all!
also last month, i went to my high school reunion, #20. i wasn't going to go at first, and didn't decide to actually go until 10 days before, but looking back on it, i was glad i went! i ended up staying downtown with a group of friends and made a little mini vacation out of it! so not too bad, plus now i am "reconnected" with all of those crazy people from the past. you know, those people that know all the most embarrassing things about you, right down to those god awful haircuts you used to have! pretty funny to think about now, but then again, who isn't up for a good laugh every once in awhile?
we also had all of the Christmas hoopla, parties, pub crawls, food, friends etc., to get through the month of December. Kieran was very happy with Santa this year! he got what the had asked for, the beauty of only letting him ask Santa for 3 things, and a little more.
the huge gift that made an impression on both John and Kieran was the wii. they both had wanted one, and i had been trying to put them off until next month for Kieran's b-day. well, i caved and they were both extremely happy on Christmas morning when they opened the box!
as you can imagine, there has been a ton of wii playing going on around here for all of us! we also have decided that maybe bowling will be Kieran's sport as he does great on it with the wii, always getting at least 4 strikes per game! who knew!
yes, this is Kieran right after we got the wii set up...he could not wait to junp in and start playing it!
here is one last picture from Christmas....this was on Christmas night at my dad's. Kieran was very happy to get Spike the dino and some more Leapster Tag books for the Tag system that Santa brought him!
we are going to close out the year with our tradition of heading up to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin tomorrow for 2 nights of fun with Buffy and Fun Billy. this year we are bringing our niece, Maeve, with us so she can help out with Kieran and also have fun too. her big thing will be hitting the spa with Buffy and I on Wednesday for a pedi/mani. she is really looking forward to pampered at the spa and to hanging out at the pool at the resort! it should be a good time and a nice little getaway! i will be sure to post some pictures when we get back, as well as keeping up to date on the blog!
finally, i have some pictures of some of those "mystery gifts" that i have talked about in the past....
these are the 2 stockings that i made (needlepoint) for John's mom and dad for Christmas. they were very happy with them and able to put them out early as i told them to open their gift before Christmas. that way they could enjoy them longer!
the light house ornament might have been on here before, but it was for Kieran as he is in a total light house faze, i think that he likes them because of Michigan. i did made the mitten for Buffy. she is crazy about all things pink, so it was perfect for her!
have a great New Year everyone!

still de-satshing....
that's right! i am on a mission to get rid of my stash!
what started as a way to hide Kieran's Christmas gifts has turned into my new project. i am determined to have more open space in my house by February. so far so good!
my first 2 rounds of eBay sales have gone somewhat well. i did have some items that weren't bid on, but i can live with that because a lot of stuff did go! i am a bit torn about it still, but at least i know that the yarn will be used by some other knitters and that is good. plus, lets be honest here...the extra cash comes in handy this time of year too!
in other news...John and i have been bitten by the face book bug. i never really had any interest in it as i knew that it was originally set up for college students only, and lets face it...i am a bit past that age group! however, over the last few weeks about 5 people have told me to get on there and check it out.
so on Monday John and i both signed up for it. my main curiosity with the site was to find out who will be at my 20th high school reunion, it is next Friday. once on the site i found tons of people on there. it seemed crazy to me how many people there were, but i guess it makes sense...it is great for networking and finding all of those "long lost friends."
needless to say, i have found tons of people who will be at the reunion. i actually am looking forward to going to it now. keep in mind that i didn't decide on going to the reunion until this past Monday as well. so yes, Monday was a big/busy day around here! haha
the funniest thing that i found out while on face book...one of my old friends from high school lives a few blocks away from me and his son goes to the same school as Kieran. talk about a small world! i guess face book has lived up to it's expectations!
not much else to report from this end. no major knitting going on, only one project going as of now. it is portable and i find that i am only really working on it when i take Kieran to his swim class. i just can't seem to get that knitting mojo going right now. it is probably because i had pumped out all of those "mystery" gifts recently and now i don't even want to think about knitting! oh well...i am sure that it will come back sometime. as i recall this happened last year around this time due to the needlepoint craze*.
i am off to check the last round of my eBay sales...they will close up on Sunday afternoon. feel free to check them out, my eBay id is shelleyfinds0(zero)5.
have a great weekend everyone!
*yes, i know that i owe you all my rant on the needleoint stoe that i loathe....trust me, it will come, just not now because i don't want to get into all that crap right now!
